UP Gallery (est. 2009) Solely dedicated to exhibiting photography and moving-image works. Established in 2009, UP Gallery is dedicated solely to showcasing lens-based works. Founded by Yichia Liao, who is not only the gallery’s founder but also an artist and photographer, UP Gallery was born out of a vision for a premier platform to exhibit photography in Taiwan. Returning to his hometown of Hsinchu, Yichia established a physical gallery space spanning 600 square meters across three floors, complete with a parking lot accommodating 15-20 vehicles. This space offers audiences an exceptional viewing experience to appreciate photographic and moving-image works. Derived from “Uniquephoto Gallery,” UP Gallery introduced the concept of editions and has been committed to enhancing the value of photography in Taiwan since its inception. The gallery believes that each photograph holds unique potential, and its core value lies in uniqueness and progression which lead to one direction: UP, the gallery’s core value. Currently led by director Agnes Liao, who holds a Master of Arts in Photography from Sotheby’s Institute of Art (London) and serves as a reviewer for the Mandarin version of the book “Photography and the Art Market,” UP Gallery specializes in contemporary art photography. Dedicated to discovering emerging Asian artists and guiding them into the global art photography world. With a mission to expand its reach among art photography enthusiasts and within the contemporary art field, UP Gallery continues to champion the exploration and appreciation of lens-based works.
