Taka Ishii Gallery Photography / Film

Since its opening in 1994, Taka Ishii Gallery has been maintaining and developing an exhibition program based upon the dual goals of introducing international contemporary artists to Japan and serving as an international platform for the presentation of the work of emerging Japanese artists and contemporary masters. While the gallery aesthetic is rooted in photography, the program is contemporary and the represented artists work in a variety of media. The annual exhibition program of eight solo and/or group exhibitions is supplemented by the publication of catalogues and artists’ books, with an emphasis on the documentation and promotion of the work of emerging Japanese artists. In 2011, the gallery opened Taka Ishii Gallery Photography / Film in Roppongi (Tokyo), specializing in photographic works. This space introduces photographers from pre and post-war generations, as well as emerging young photographers. The gallery opened new spaces in Kyoto (Shijo) and Gunma (Maebashi) in 2023.
